Abstract: (50 Views) |
Background and Objectives: A healthy dietary behavioral pattern is one of the most important pillars of health during childhood. Given the decisive role of textbooks in shaping children's knowledge, attitudes, and skills, this study aimed to evaluate and analyze the status of healthy nutrition education in preschool textbooks.
Materials and Methods: The present study is a descriptive cross-sectional study with a quantitative content analysis approach. Initially, through a review of the literature, a checklist of healthy nutrition topics required by children was prepared. The components were then evaluated by 20 experts in health education, educational sciences, nutrition, and curriculum planning using the Delphi technique in 3 rounds. After identifying the most important educational components, content analysis was performed on preschool textbooks. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 22 and descriptive statistics.
Results: Seven main components in healthy nutrition education were determined. In total, 81 references to healthy nutrition components were identified in preschool textbooks. The highest frequency was related to the component "recognition of healthy and unhealthy snacks" (18 cases), and the lowest frequency was related to the component "importance of eating or not eating food" (3 cases). The highest number of references to the components was observed in the book "Dast-Varzi, Volume 3" (58.7%), and the lowest in the book "Kare Anse Ba Quran, Volume 1" (4.84%). In terms of presentation method, healthy nutrition topics were mainly presented through images and text, and mostly within the cognitive domain, with the least attention paid to the psychomotor domain.
Conclusion: The findings indicate that healthy nutrition education in preschool textbooks focuses more on the cognitive domain, and insufficient attention has been paid to practical training and changing children's attitudes. Therefore, revising the content of textbooks and improving the training provided by instructors, with an emphasis on practical training and efforts to change students' attitudes, seems essential. |
